I had the honour to design the 2017 magazine for Rustenburg Girls’ Junior School Magazine after having designed the 2016 magazine as well. This 140 page magazine required conceptualising the visual representation of the school’s year theme: “Be Brave”. Each Grade chapter showcases a famous South African female depicting the epitomy of being brave in the face of adversity. This theme is coupled with photographs of selected school girl representatives depicted as happy brave warrior-inspired heroines.

Once the mood board for the look and feel for all page templates had been approved, we went into full production of the magazine, which included organising the main themed photoshoot. We conceptualised and art directed the wardrobe, styling, hair and make-up of all the student models posing as brave young “Rustybugs” in their warrior-inpsired attire.

The actual design process of putting the magazine together was a wonderful, fun experience. I worked very closely with the editor of the magazine, who collated all the articles and day-to-day photographs taken by staff and parents. It was a full solid 2 month project that was more than thoroughly enjoyable. The result: a beautifully printed, inspiring account of a school’s year in academics, art, culture and sport.
